GLENDORA, Calif. (KABC) — A small brush fire broke out Saturday afternoon in the Glendora area, burning at least one structure and threatening several homes in the area, officials said.
Los Angeles County firefighters responded around 12:30 p.m. to an area just north of San Dimas, where the fire had burned about an acre, officials said. Firefighters were able to stop the fire — which grew to about four acres — about an hour later, thanks to water drops.
The fire broke out on top of a hill, making access difficult for fire crews.
“The threat to the National Forest/San Gabriel Mountains National Monument has been reduced,” read an update from officials posted on X.
Video from the ground shows how close the fire was to reaching the nearby homes. Evacuation warnings were temporarily in place for nearby homes.
One neighbor described the frantic moments of packing up and getting out.
“Neighbors were the first to see it. They were the ones who called my dad. We were like, panicking. We were at the bank, and wanted to get back here as soon as we could,” Angela Liu said. “We packed virtually everything. Our clothes are just in luggages. At first, I was thinking, ‘Ok. I think we’re being too dramatic.’ But of course, we have to, like, prepare.”
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
