THIS is the dramatic moment a plane carrying nearly 100 people slid off a snow-covered runway during a horror landing.

Terrifying footage shows the AirBaltic jet swerving off the icy runway at Riga airport in Latvia after struggling to come to a stop in the freezing conditions.

The TikTok video filmed by a passenger shows the plane descending over snow-covered motorways and fields in a seemingly normal landing.

The jet touches down and tries to slam on the brakes for 30 seconds before lurching to the right and sliding off the icy runway.

Footage shows the plane coming to a complete stop at a right angle, with a view of the runway lights from the passenger’s window.

The captain can immediately be heard telling cabin crew: “Attention crew at stations.”

AirBaltic confirmed the nose wheel skidded off the runway shortly after 9pm on Wednesday after flying in from Paris.

All 89 passengers and seven crew members were safely taken to the terminal, and aircraft was taken away for inspection.

No injuries were reported.

The runway was shut for three hours to deal with the incident and airline diverted four other incoming flights.

AirBaltic apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident.

TikTok users blasted the airport for not cleaning snow off the runway.

“The pilots could do nothing about the sliding,” one said.

Another wrote: “I remember last time I had a flight to Riga and it was a snowstorm. I thought it was going to be my last flight.”

A third commented: “As cabin crew, hearing ‘attention crew at stations’ is terrifying.”

Earlier this year, terrifying footage showed the moment a jet skidded off the snow-covered runway at O’Hare Airport in Chicago.

The China Airlines Cargo 747 crashed into cargo bins as Storm Kenan hit the Northeast and New England, leaving thousands of flights grounded.

One of the cargo bins was sucked into the left engine, which erupted into smoke. No one was injured.

The US storm made ground travel treacherous as up to two inches per hour hit major cities such as New York, which saw eight inches.

In 2020, a plane carrying 169 passengers skidded off a runway at an airport in Turkey.

The Pegasus Airline Boeing 737 came off the runway at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport.

Videos at the scene showed emergency service vehicles surrounding the aircraft which became stuck on muddy grassland next to the runway.

The north of the country had been battered by strong winds and heavy rain at the time.
