Five people were injured in a shooting Friday night near a community event in Seattle, according to police.
Two of the victims are in critical condition, and no suspects have been identified yet, police said. Authorities are investigating what led to the shooting.
On Friday night, police responded to reports of a shooting around 9 p.m. in the Rainier Valley area of south Seattle. Police later said several dozens of rounds were fired.
The shooting started in the parking lot of what was formerly known as King Donuts. All five victims had been attending a “community outreach event” that was happening nearby, police said.
Four of the victims are in their 20s and one is in his 30s, police said.
The community event was a regular pop-up that helps provide food and connect people to services, The Seattle Times reports, citing Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell thanked community members and police at the scene for working together to protect residents and called the violence a tragedy.
“These community leaders are putting literally their lives on the line to protect their own community,” Harrell said.
