(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento State University announced plans to build a new 25,000-seat stadium.
The stadium is expected to host the school’s football, rugby and soccer games as well as other events such as concerts and commencement ceremonies.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Sacramento State,” Sac State President Luke Wood said. “The construction of this new, multi-use stadium will take our athletic game experiences to a new level… The feasibility study completed in 2023 shows we not only need the improvements, but we have so much more we can offer our campus and community with a new stadium.”
The stadium will be built on the current Hornet Stadium site, which was originally built in 1969 and has a capacity of 21,195.
The university said the new horseshoe-design stadium will have student sections, premium seating and boxes.
According to Sac State, funding for the project has been secured and will not impact the institution’s budget.
