Super Bowl Sunday with a chilly start in the 30s, then sunshine and warming day time highs near 60.
SACRAMENTO, Calif — Super Bowl Sunday, seeing cold morning lows in the upper 30s and low 40s.. Another dry and mild day is ahead with highs near 60° under sunny skies. A few high clouds are possible, but nothing much more than that.
This weekend is really the beginning of a drier and warmer stretch of weather.
High pressure will be present for much of the next several days. This will close the storm door and send temps a few degrees above average for the time of year. Valentine’s Day looks particularly nice, with highs in the middle 60s. Some clouds are possible during the midweek period but we stay dry.
The dry and mild pattern doesn’t last too long.
High pressure breaks down after Valentine’s Day, reopening the storm door and putting rain chances back in the forecast starting on Thursday. The 8-14 day precipitation outlook from the Climate Prediction Center sums up what all of the weather models are showing: a high chance of flipping back to a wet pattern by the Presidents’ Day weekend.

Thursday is the first day with scattered shower chances, but more than likely we stay dry until Friday. That’s when more widespread showers are likely, ahead of a bigger storm over the weekend.
It’s still about a week away and as we know, a week is a long ways away in the weather world. So we aren’t going to talk details here, but we can say that heavy rain, heavy snow, and strong winds are all possible and even likely with the storm next weekend. Generally expecting a few inches of rain and a few feet of Sierra snow. The other thing we’re watching for is the potential for strong wind gusts, although likely not like what we saw last week.

In the meantime, enjoy the mild and dry stretch of weather and keep checking back for the latest on the next storm.
