A Sacramento man pled guilty in federal court to possessing and distributing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.Louis Mendonsa, 61, pled guilty to distributing illicit material over the dark web on Thursday.According to court documents, from 2021 until his arrest in November 2022, Mendonsa was a moderator on at least four sites on the dark web dedicated to the sexual exploitation of children. On the sites, Mendonsa created new topics and forums, managed and commented on other users’ posts, enforced rules and distributed images and videos, according to the attorney’s office.Officials said when Mendonsa was arrested in Sacramento, he had an external hard drive containing over 11,000 images and videos of child pornography.Mendonsa faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 40 years for each count of distributing child pornography and between 10 and 20 years in prison for possession of child pornography. The attorney’s office noted the actual sentence will be determined at the discretion of the court.Mendonsa is set to be sentenced on July 18.
