Sacramento activates weather-respite centers Dec. 31–Jan. 5, offering shelter, storage, pet options, and free SacRT rides during rainy weather.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — With consecutive days of rain expected, the City of Sacramento will open weather-respite centers from Wednesday, Dec. 31, through Monday, Jan. 5.

The Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) at 3615 Auburn Blvd. will operate from 1 p.m. Dec. 31 to 8 a.m. Jan. 5.

Walk-ups are welcome, and the center can accommodate up to 50 guests. Personal belongings can be stored, and pets are allowed.

The North 5th Street Navigation Center at 700 North Fifth St. will be open nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the same period.

It can house up to 20 adults but does not allow pets. Visitors are encouraged not to gather outside the shelter to maintain smooth operations.

Additional weather respite options include Sacramento County’s Warren E. Thornton Youth Center, located at 4000 Branch Center Road, as well as local libraries and community centers during their normal hours.

Residents needing assistance can call 211 or visit the 211 website for more information.

The City is partnering with Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) to provide free transportation to and from the weather-respite centers.

Riders should show a SacRT flyer to bus or light rail staff for free access. The offer is valid only for travel to and from activated weather-respite centers.

City officials will continue to monitor the forecast and may extend operations or activate additional centers if needed.
