A 9-year-old Sacramento girl whose puppy was intentionally run over and killed earlier this month got the chance to make a new furry friend this week when sheriff’s deputies and a local animal shelter connected her with a foster dog.
Investigators said Priscilla Aguilar’s German shepherd puppy was in the road on June 5 when a man drove up to it as Priscilla was rushing to get her dog, according to local TV station KCRA3. The man then told Priscilla that the puppy shouldn’t be in the road and ran the dog over, the station reported.
Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office then reached out to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter to see if they could find a new friend for Priscilla, the shelter reported.
On Wednesday, Priscilla got to meet Atlas, a 5-year-old husky waiting to be adopted, the shelter said in a Facebook post
“We were heartbroken to learn about an alleged instance of animal cruelty that occurred earlier this month … Before we opened to the public today at noon, we opened our doors early, at 10 a.m., to show a very special little girl around our shelter and help her pick out any dog that she wanted,” the shelter said.
After meeting three dogs she really liked, Priscilla ultimately decided to stick with playful Atlas who she fell in love with almost immediately, the shelter said. He plopped his head into her lap as soon as he saw her, the shelter said.
“She was really pretty. She was playful. And I felt a stronger connection with her,” according to a video filmed by KCRA3.
