In a keynote address to the Russian Defense Ministry, President Vladimir Putin acknowledged various shortcomings within the Russian military that were revealed by the 10-months-long invasion of Ukraine.

“The combat has highlighted issues on which we must, as they say, work hard,” Putin said in televised remarks, speaking to Russia’s top military leaders at an end-of-year conference, “including the issues we have discussed on multiple occasions, such as communications and automated control systems, tactics of counter-battery warfare, target designation, and so on.”
