Rivals.com – Three-star DE Jide Abasiri stays home, commits to Minnesota

Minnesota is currently making a big splash in the 2024 class and their latest commitment was from one of the in-state’s top talents in Savage (Minn.) Prior Lake defensive end Jide Abasiri.

For Abasiri, he’ll now have a chance to reunite with a couple of former teammates that are currently taking part in spring practice as mid-year enrollees.

“The offer was huge for not just me and my family, but also my teammates. Being able to play with Martin (Owusu) and Greg (Johnson) again is a blessing and I’m just so grateful for the opportunity.”

After numerous campus visits in the past, the three-star prospect committed to the Gophers during a junior day visit on Saturday. Abasiri chose Minnesota over an offer list that also included Missouri, Washington, Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State.

Abasiri originally picked up an offer from Minnesota during a visit back on January 16th and has developed a great rapport with new defensive Winston DeLattiboudere III throughout the process.

“He’s amazing,” Abasiri said of DeLattiboudere. “His whole atmosphere, personality, and energy is just great.”

Abasiri becomes Minnesota’s highest-ranked commitment in the 2024 class, currently listed as a 5.7, three-star talent. He is also the 42nd best strongside defensive end in the country and the No. 2 ranked prospect in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Abasiri is the second commitment of the day for the Gophers, joining three-star wide receiver Dallas Sims. He is the eighth overall pledge for Minnesota’s 2024 class that is currently ranked 16th nationally, according to Rivals.com.
