According to sources, SMU has hired former Baylor Associate Director of Player Personnel Tyler Foster to be the Mustangs’ new Assistant Director of Recruiting.

The hire fills one of multiple open spots in the personnel department in Dallas as SMU continues to show an emphasis on recruiting the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the hire of Foster further reflects that mission.

Foster, who graduated from W.T. White High School in 2008, played running back for the Dallas ISD program before enrolling at Kilgore College where he played in 2009. After his stint in East Texas, Foster played at UTSA where he graduated in 2014.

His coaching career began at UTSA as a student coach for the Roadrunners in the spring of 2014 before becoming a graduate assistant at Prairie View A&M from 2015 to 2016. In 2017, Foster returned to UTSA to earn his master’s degree and enter the high school coaching ranks.

In 2018, Foster returned home to Dallas to coach running backs while also serving as the run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator for Kimball High School. After serving one year for the Knights, Foster made the move to Oklahoma State to become a defensive recruiting analyst for the 2019 season.

After a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, Foster returned to the Big 12 to be an offensive analyst for Kansas State in 2021. He then landed at Baylor in Jan. 2022 to be the Bears’ Associate Director of Player Personnel.

Foster returns to Dallas to help further establish the local recruiting footprint that Rhett Lashlee and his staff have helped develop in their short time in University Park.

His ties immediately give the Mustangs more assistance in Dallas ISD as well as the surrounding Dallas-Fort Worth area. At Baylor, Foster also established more of a statewide footprint that he will also be able to bring to the Mustangs.
