Richard Johnson: Prince Andrew’s price to pay and Conor McGregor’s film future

Glynn Turman was just a boy when he appeared on Broadway with Sydney Poitier and Ruby Dee in “A Raisin in the Sun.”

He went on to act in 50 movies and even more TV shows, winning an Emmy. He’ll be 76 on Tuesday.

But it wasn’t easy.

“I didn’t start out wanting to be an actor,” Turman said. “As soon as I decided I wanted to be an actor, I couldn’t find work. There’s ups and downs.”

Turman, a New York native, is flying in from Los Angeles for a screening of “The Legend of Glynn Turman” on Feb. 2 at Riverside Theater.

He credits Juney Smith, his partner on nine documentaries, for persuading him. “He said, ‘We need to do your story.’ I said, ‘I guess we do. I’m not getting any younger.’”

The documentary briefly mentions Turman’s marriage to Aretha Franklin, but “it’s more a guideline to people interested in the performing arts, how to handle the highs and lows.”

Turman was recently nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his performance in ABC’s limited series “Women of the Movement,” portraying Mose Wright, a civil rights leader and great-uncle to Emmett Till.

Turman just returned from five months in Wales, where he acted in “Black Cake,” a family drama for Hulu produced by Oprah Winfrey.

But first, he’ll be seen in “80 for Brady,” starring Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno — and ageless quarterback Tom Brady.

“It’s fantastic, if I may say so myself. Those girls just steal your heart.”

The accusation that Conor McGregor beat up a bikini-clad guest on his boat in Spain could be problematic for the producers of the “Roadhouse” remake.

The UFC champion has a small role in Jake Gyllenhaal’s new version of the Patrick Swayze classic.

McGregor was celebrating his birthday last July in Ibiza when the woman claims he hit her in the face and kicked her, knocking her down.

She claims in her lawsuit she jumped in the ocean and was rescued by the coast guard.

But a spokeswoman for the Irish fighter said, “Mr. McGregor is steadfast in his denial of all the accusations made by a guest on his boat.”

McGregor, who is still signed to the UFC, is supposed to make a comeback in the ring — not on a boat.

Prince Andrew is considering trying to claw back what he paid Virginia Giuffre now that she admitted she may have misremembered being abused by Alan Dershowitz.

In February 2022, Prince Andrew, who has denied ever meeting Giuffre, agreed to settle her claims against him. The amount of the payout was not made public, but reports in the British media put the cost at $13.5 million.

“It’s not about money. It’s his reputation,” lawyer Arthur Aidala told me. “Andrew lost everything.”

Aidala, who represented Dershowitz and is handling Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal, said Andrew was helped when Maxwell claimed in an interview with Britain’s TalkTV that the photo of Andrew with Giuffre — and with Ghislaine smiling in the background — is fake.

“If Giuffre got it wrong with Dershowitz, she could have gotten it wrong with Andrew as well,” Aidala said. “He’s telling Prince Charles. This proves I’m innocent.”

Giuffre has a deal for a book that is expected to bury Andrew, who has reportedly been booted from Buckingham Palace.

Don’t be surprised if Prince Harry is the only family member disinvited to Charles’ coronation in May. Prince Andrew might be missing too.

Ice-T is busy filming the 24th season of “Law & Order” in the city this month, but he’ll find time Feb. 5 to open the show of artist Vincent Peters, aka Æthelstan, at Carlton Fine Arts on Fifth Ave.

The rapper and actor, who has been in over 400 episodes of the crime show, will unveil his new portrait from Peters’ new series spotlighting African Americans who have influenced his career.

The show to celebrate Black History month also features Peters’ portraits of Jay-Z, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and NASA Astronaut Victor Glover.

Julia Roberts’ niece Emma Roberts, who’s starring in “Maybe I Do” with Richard Gere, Luke Bracey and Diane Keaton, revealed a beauty secret to her 19 million Instagram followers.

Roberts’ credits the AMEŌN ice cube skin treatment for giving a glamorous glow to her face. Other fans of AMEŌN’s line include “My Unorthodox Life” star Julia Haart.

Pablo Picasso’s plaster sculpture of his left hand from 1937 hasn’t been exhibited in over two decades.

But Isabelle Bscher’s Galerie Gmurzynska will present the hand at The Palm Beach Show opening Feb. 16.

The gallery will also showcase Prince Hussain Aga Khan’s undersea photography featuring manta rays.

Honoring the birthday boy, whose Perk Marketing does events with superstar hip hop artists on both coasts, were rappers A$AP Ferg, Fabolous and Busta Rhymes.

Serge Ibaka of the Milwaukee Bucks, who might be moving to the Brooklyn Nets, rolled in with group of Brazilian models and stayed till closing.

Henri Kessler, who now brokers real estate deals for movie and TV studios, returned to his previous life as a movie producer when “Slam” was screened at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival 25 years after winning the Grand Jury Prize there.

Some 200 film lovers joined Kessler, “Slam” Director Marc Levin and its stars Saul Williams and Sonja Sohn, plus Bobby Kennedy III, Harper Peck-Voll and Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple at The Cabin in Park City, Utah.

“What an honor for the film to be recognized for its significance again after all these years,” said Kessler. He added, “Sharing this moment with my clients Electric Owl Studios and Domain Capital was ideal in the circle of life.”
