Joseph Marroquin was stopped by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic violation while driving a stolen Chevrolet Camaro on July 15. Deputies also located a large quantity of stolen mail and personal identifying information belonging to more than thirty individuals inside the vehicle during the traffic stop.

During an investigation, deputies identified more than thirty victims, eleven of whom were able to testify that they did not permit Marroquin to possess their personal information. Many of the victims were elderly or otherwise unable to appear in court.

“This case highlights the collaborative work between law enforcement and our office to protect the community from identity theft and hold repeat offenders accountable,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas.

Marroquin, who has multiple prior strike convictions, is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 15, where he faces a potential sentence of more than seven years in state prison.
