SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell is the latest candidate to enter the race for California governor in 2026.
A campaign website for the Bay Area representative went live on Thursday night. The website included a video and the phrase “Fighting For A New California.”
The website went live the same night Swalwell appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he officially announced his campaign and received a standing ovation.
Swalwell has joined a growing list of candidates for California governor, including billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former state Controller Betty Yee, former Rep. Katie Porter, former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.
On the Republican side, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and political commentator Steve Hilton are considered the leading contenders.
