U.S. Bancorp: Profit fell 16% from a year ago to $1.5 billion, or 91 cents a share. That was below the 96 cents a share that analysts surveyed by FactSet expected.

Citizens Financial: Profit slid 32% from a year earlier to $430 million, or 85 cents a share. Analysts expected 91 cents a share.

M&T Bank: Profit rose nearly 7% to ​$690 million, or $3.98 a share. Analysts forecast $3.88 a share.
