The first phase of the project focuses on the Cordova Arena, which will serve as the home to a new Major Arena Soccer League franchise.
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Rancho Cordova city leaders have unanimously approved plans for a massive new development called the Cordova City Center, anchored by a 7,500-seat sports arena.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, council members each gave their votes before Mayor Pulipati declared the motion passed.
The project’s economic development agreement allows for construction of a multi-use arena, two or more hotels, a retail and dining district, movie theater, businesses, a public plaza, parking and at least 640 residential units.
“This sized arena is what’s missing in the greater Sacramento region,” said Charanjeet Tiwana-Purewal, president of KozPure Development. “When you look at the top 25 DMA, the Sacramento region is the only region that does not have an arena of this size.”
Joshua Wood with KozPure Development said the project will drive major job growth. “This is going to spark an incredible amount of economic growth,” Wood said. “This is going to create 37,000 jobs. Just think of all the hotels, all the restaurants, all the bars, the clubs, the arena, all the different things that come with a project like this.”
The first phase centers on the Cordova Arena, which will become home to a new Major Arena Soccer League franchise, including Sacramento’s first professional women’s soccer team. The arena will rise near Kilgore Road and Trade Center Drive.
“We looked at a couple of different sites,” Tiwana-Purewal said. “Our business is located in Rancho Cordova. We’re residents of Rancho Cordova, and so for us it was really easy to choose the city of Rancho Cordova to build this entertainment district project.”
The new soccer teams are expected to debut in Fall 2027 at the Cordova Arena.
