Queens rooftop shooter who sparked massive police probe caught with stolen firearms and crack | amNewYork

The alleged Queens rooftop shooter who fired rounds with a rifle over the weekend was found to have crack and illegal firearms, including a handgun stolen from Indianapolis, police sources said.

According to authorities and court documents, Junior Greene, 36, allegedly shot off several rounds from 163-19 107th Ave. in Jamaica at about 9:29 p.m. on Feb. 18, prompting numerous 911 calls and a massive police response that included helicopters and heavily-armored emergency service officers.

Cops swiftly cordoned-off the area and engaged in a standoff with Greene. NYPD Emergency Service Unit members eventually were able to cuff him as he tried to escape through a first-story window.

After the apprehension, court documents say that investigators discovered several shell casings and retrieved security video that allegedly depicted Greene widely firing at and missing a 37-year-old man outside the building at the intersection of 107th Avenue and 164th Street.

According to the criminal complaint, the gunfire apparently sent bystanders ducking by nearby parked vehicles and others fleeing for their lives. Greene then allegedly chased his victim before giving up and returning home.  While it is unclear what triggered the dispute, authorities do not believe the pair are known to each other.

Sources familiar with the investigation report that Greene may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the shooting.

After he was taken into custody, police searched the subject’s home to find bags of crack cocaine and several firearms, including a Ruger pistol that was reported stolen from the Metro Police Department in Indianapolis. A SKS assault rifle was also recovered.

Police do not yet know how Greene allegedly came into possession of the weapons.

Greene is charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a machine gun, reckless endangerment and more.
