Qatar Airways Adds Restrictions for Award Bookings for Family & Friends
Qatar Airways appears to have implemented new restrictions on Privilege Club award bookings.
Members are now seeing a notice stating that award flights can only be booked for people included in their Family & Friends list. You can start adding members after you’ve been a Privilege Club member for 30 days and have collected Avios by flying or using one of the Qatar Airways cards.
The move is likely aimed at curbing mileage brokers and the resale of award tickets. However, legitimate travelers may also be impacted. It could create headaches for people who transfer points into Qatar Privilege Club from programs like Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One, Citi ThankYou Points, Bilt Rewards, or Chase Ultimate Rewards and then later discover they cannot immediately redeem.
