SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Several protesters are facing charges Tuesday in connection to a number of pro-Gaza demonstrations that complicated Monday’s morning commute.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins will hold a news conference on Tuesday about the potential charges against the protesters arrested Monday on the Golden Gate Bridge.

The three protests played out for hours in the morning first on northbound Interstate 880 at 5th Avenue in Oakland.

Just a few hours later, protesters blocked southbound lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge. then another group shutdown the southbound lanes of I-880 in Oakland.

The CHP arrested 38 people tied to the first round of protests.

Protesters brought barrels filled with concrete onto northbound I-880 and chained themselves to them.

Pro-Palestinian protesters blockaded the Golden Gate Bridge for hours, sending the Monday morning commute into chaos.

Lanes were fully closed for nearly two hours.

Southbound 880 was closed by activists who blocked an on-ramp and all lanes of traffic.

The on-ramp and all lanes re-opened just before 2 p.m. on Monday.

It took nearly five hours to reopen all lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The California Highway Patrol says a combined total of 38 people were arrested.

The first protest began at 6:15 a.m. on Northbound 880 at 5th Avenue. Then at 8:15 a.m., protesters shut down southbound lanes of 880 in Oakland. Twelve people were arrested.

CHP officials say the protest was not only inconvenient, but it was dangerous.

Protesters face a variety of charges including unlawful assembly, refusal to comply with a lawful order, unlawful stop on a bridge, resisting arrest and false imprisonment and conspiracy.
