A police officer was injured during a standoff on Tuesday in Greenville.

According to the Greenville Police Department, officers received an “open line” 911 call around 8:30 p.m. from an apartment on the 600 block of Glendale Drive.

When an officer arrived to check on the people inside, a person shot through the door with a shotgun and injured the officer. Emergency crews took the officer to the hospital, and police expect the officer to recover.

It is unclear if shotgun pellets or shrapnel from the door injured the officer, according to police.

The suspect has barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Police have evacuated the area and are asking anyone in the area to shelter in place.
