Police arrest suspect involved in deadly shooting in Alexandria

Detectives believe the shooting is domestic-related.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police in Alexandria are investigating after a man was found shot dead in his apartment on Berkeley Street. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to contact them.

According to a spokesperson for the police department, Alexandria Police officers responded to a call of shots fired at 3450 Berkley Street just before 11 p.m. Saturday. 

On Sunday, police announced the arrest of Damontie James, 26, of Alexandria. James is believed to have shot and killed Kory Anding, 29, of Alexandria, during a dispute involving his sister. 

When police arrived at the apartment, they found Anding unresponsive with gunshot wounds. James remained on the scene and was immediately detained.

James is being charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the Commission of a Felony. 

“At this early stage of the investigation, this appears to be domestic-related, and all parties involved are believed to be accounted for,” the police department said in a press release Sunday. Additional details about the circumstances of the shooting have not been made public.
