PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Fallen Philadelphia Officer Andy Chan has been laid to rest.
The highway patrol officer died on December 2, nearly seven years after being critically injured in a crash.
“We gather today for Andy Chan, because he was special,” Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said during Chan’s funeral service on Tuesday.

Chopper 6 was over the police procession as Officer Chan’s casket was transported from the funeral home in Northeast Philadelphia to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City, where the funeral service was held.
“He brought out the best of me, he believed in me, and he saw something that I didn’t see,” said Chan’s wife, Teng.
“He was a great person. He was beyond good. There was no job, no victim, never any complaining, anything that was too small for him to handle personally,” said retired Interim Philadelphia Police Commissioner Christine Coulter. He wanted people to know that they’re better cause he’s now here and he was going to help them through their worst day.”
A public viewing was held for 55-year-old Chan on Monday night at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church, as members of the Philadelphia Police Department and the community paid their final respects.
Chan grew up in Chinatown and attended elementary school at the same church where the viewing was held.

He faced years of intensive care, following a crash in 2019 when a driver struck his motorcycle in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia.
Officer Chan had been on the force for 24 years at the time of the accident.
