FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Three people, including two Pennsylvania State Troopers, were shot Wednesday evening in Antrim Township, Franklin County.
Two Troopers who were responding to a call in southern Franklin County exchanged gunfire with “one of the suspects,” Pennsylvania State Police at Chambersburg said. The Troopers were injured and flown to WellSpan York.
The condition of the Troopers is not known at this time, and the nature of the initial incident has not been disclosed.
State Police did not say if the suspect was taken to a hospital. The coroner’s office is also at the scene of the shooting, according to an abc27 News crew there.
State Police say there is no threat to the public.
A spokesperson for PennDOT confirmed in an email sent at 6:50 p.m. that roads are closed at exit 3 on I-81 in Antrim Township. A 511camera showed numerous first responders blocking off the area right by a Sheetz, and at least one helicopter landed on the exit ramp.
Northbound on the interstate is still open, but southbound is shut down, the 511camera shows.
Gov. Josh Shapiro said he and his wife are praying for the State Troopers, and asked others to join him.
“Pennsylvania’s law enforcement officers are the very best of us — running towards danger every day to keep our communities safe,” Shapiro said in a social media post.
In a statement, Stephen Polishan, the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association President, asked the public to pray for the troopers and their family.
“Each day, the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police go to work prepared to give their last full measure,” Polishan said. “We can never thank them enough for their incredible bravery.”
Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge President Joseph Regan also issued a statement saying the PA FOP “stands united in support of the injured Troopers, their families and all who serve with honor.”
