A U.S. Park Police spokesperson said they are still searching for the driver.

WASHINGTON — A United States Park Police officer is in the hospital after being struck by a driver during an attempted traffic stop in D.C. on Wednesday. Police are still searching for the driver in this case.

According to Sgt. Thomas Twiname, the crash happened around noon in the area of 15th and Constitution in Northwest. The officer was attempting to stop a driver in the area. It is not clear why the driver was being stopped. The driver refused to stop and struck the officer.

Twiname said the officer had injuries not thought to be life-threatening. A U.S. Park Police helicopter was seen on the National Mall taking the injured officer to a nearby hospital. 

Police are still searching for the vehicle and driver in this case. Police have not given a description of the vehicle wanted in this case. 

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about what happened is asked to call the Park Police Dispatch Center at 202-610-7505.
