Two Federal Aviation Administration grants totaling more than $240,000 were given to Yolo County. Officials released that $170,620 will be put toward the runway rehabilitation planning, and $71,250 for the development of a Pavement Maintenance Management System.
Officials said both projects are part of the County’s Airport Capital Improvement Plan, prioritizing investment for safe and reliable operations.
“Improvements to the Yolo County Airport is an investment in our local economy and transportation infrastructure,” Lucas Frerichs, Yolo County Board of Supervisors, said. “These federal grant funds will ensure that our runway and pavement systems remain safe and reliable, while also supporting the aviation businesses that call Yolo County home.”
The runway rehabilitation project will address fixing the airport’s wear and tear from age-related weathering and cracking. County officials stated that repairs will target crack sealing, isolated pavement replacement and possible seal coating.
The PMMS will provide updated evaluations of the airport’s runways, taxiways, aprons, and tie-down areas. The system will implement documenting pavement conditions, establish maintenance schedules and recommend improvements to preserve the airport’s infrastructure, according to county officials.
“The Yolo County Airport has been part of this community for generations, and these grants allow us to keep its facilities safe, reliable, and ready for the future,” Ryan Pistochini, Yolo County General Services Director, said. “By planning for runway rehabilitation and updating our pavement management system, we’re ensuring the airport remains a strong community asset that supports local businesses and aviation activity.”
