Orville Peck releases melancholic, dreamy country anthem Drift Away, the first taste of his EP Appaloosa, scheduled for release on 14 November. Drift Away sees the masked country star co-write with Dillon Casey and Kyle Connolly, and co-produce with Jacob Portrait to craft the intoxicating, sombre production.
Like most of Peck’s releases, Drift Away captures a nostalgia for atmospheric country with an edge and a cool confidence, taking the sounds of artists such as Frankie Laine and placing them squarely in the twenty-first century. The star has also recently collaborated with Noah Cyrus and Kesha, with Cyrus returning the favour on Peck’s EP track Atchafalaya. It also appears that Peck may be taking on Maybe This Time from Cabaret – a production in which Peck starred as the Emcee on Broadway this spring.
Peck’s frequent collaborator Noah Cyrus features on the EP, with Peck recently sharing:“When @noahcyrus and I first met years ago, we both knew we had found a piece of ourselves in each other – like noticing a mirror out in a crowd. We had both been hurt by the same kind of relationships while searching for love, and little did we know we would find so much more than love in our friendship. I’m so proud to be your friend, to sing and laugh and cry with you over and over again. If love truly is a canyon, I’m happy I always have you to walk it with.”
