This week, the City of Sacramento and Congresswoman Doris Matsui sent a letter to Orestes Cruz, Acting Field Office Director for ERO San Francisco, requesting access for an inspection of the building.
According to the City of Sacramento, agents and staff at the Sacramento ICE field office have indicated that multiple people are being detained but have yet to disclose the number of individuals or their identities.
“In light of this situation, we are requesting transparency on the conditions of the detained individuals at the John Moss Federal Building as well as access to tour the facilities to ensure the humane conditions and treatment of these individuals,” the City of Sacramento said.
Allegedly, Sacramento leaders have received reports from the Sacramento community organizations of detained individuals being held in inadequate conditions. The 2025 National Detention Standards are in place to ensure proper conditions in ICE detention facilities.
“It is of the utmost urgency that this facility be made available to me, my staff, and other local
elected officials,” Matsui said.
A response from Cruz or Sacramento ICE officials has yet to be released.
