Odell Beckham Jr. is targeting a mid-November return to the NFL and there seems to be plenty of suitors for the 29-year-old wide receiver.

Beckham suffered a torn ACL during Super Bowl LVI while playing for the Rams and has since become a free agent after deciding to rehabilitate on his own rather than a rehab facility at a specific team.

While Beckham has visited a few teams over the past weeks, pictures of him being seen at the New York Giants training facility raised a lot of eyebrows, since he was originally drafted by the team in 2014.

Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller has said that he feels that Beckham would be heading in his direction, and he stated on the Richard Sherman podcast that it was a “done deal.”

Beckham has been set a November 1 deadline to sign with a team so that he would be available for the playoffs and the clamor to sign him will increase, with the Green Bay Packers also reportedly in the mix to get the Super Bowl winner.

Speaking on The Richard Sherman Podcast, with the former NFL star, Bills outside linebacker Von Miller asserted that he felt he knew where Beckham was heading.

Sherman asked: “Where Odell at? He look like he’s gonna come but then he look like he’s going to everyone right now.”

Miller replied: “I saw the other day that Odell was at the Giants facility. It’s cool. At this point of your career, if you want to go back to New York, if you want to have those ties with the Giants as that’s where it all started, that’s always going to be family.

“When you are in the position that Odell is in and you’ve won a Super Bowl and you’ve made all the money, you get and, of course, you always want to make more money. He’s good where he’s at, and he wants to make some more but I think at this time right now, he just wants to soak in all the love.”

Miller continued: “Odell, and receivers like that, want to feel love.… Sometimes you just want to step back and embrace the love.

“With me knowing Odell all this time, that’s what I feel like it is, and when he gets to a point where he feels like he’s ready to go and sign for a team in November and train the whole of December with a team and get ready with the playbook and then in the playoffs, just let it loose.

“All he needs is about two, three, four games to show people that he’s still Odell and then he’ll sign a $25 million, maybe $30 million contract per year with some team.”

Miller, who has said that he is close friends with Beckham Jr, added: “With me knowing him, I can always be wrong, but I reckon he’s going to take in all the love, he’s all about energy, he’s all about positive vibes, he wants to stay in this great place with his energy… kill it like he did with the Rams and keep it going.”

Sherman looked to make a case for Beckham Jr. to sign for the Giants, now that they have “found the way to win ball games,” but Miller had other ideas and interjected.

With some frivolity, Miller replied: “Let’s be real man, he’s coming to the Bills. He’s already signed the deal. He’s coming to the Bills as we are down a couple of receivers. We got [quarterback] Josh Allen, [wide receiver Stefon] Diggs, we want him and Diggs on the same team, come on.

“I’m optimistic and when it is all said and done, we know where Odell going to be at.”

One question which will hang over Beckham Jr. will be whether his knee can hold up after the ACL injury, which is his second ACL in as many years.

Sports injury expert Dr. Brian Sutterer told Newsweek that whoever signs Beckham would have to expect a player that is not at the top of his game, but that might still put him ahead of many NFL wide receivers.

Sutterer said: “The data suggests he will have a performance decline. Most wide receivers returning from an ACL tear will notice a drop in their on-field performance during the first season back.

“Add in that this is the second time he’s torn that ACL, and the only fair expectation for any athlete in this situation would be a decrease in their performance when they first return.

“Beckham Jr. also has a history of a major ankle fracture in 2017, an injury that by itself could be career altering.”

Sutterer concluded: “Overall, any team that signs Beckham Jr. will be doing so knowing that there’s no guarantee they get the player from five years ago.

“However, an Odell at 80 percent might still be better than the average free agent wide receiver, especially to a team in need.”

When it comes to whether Beckham Jr. can still demand top dollar, with Miller suggesting $25 million to $30 million being a possibility, Sutterer suggests it depends on how much a team needs Beckham Jr. as to whether he will get that amount.

Sutterer told Newsweek: “That all depends on how much a team is in need. Teams know they are taking a chance with any player who has that injury history.

“Thankfully, the full details of his surgery and rehabilitation should be available for teams to review, and those may reveal crucial information to help teams weigh that risk.

“Some ACL tears involve more extensive damage to the knee beyond what we see reported (cartilage, meniscus, etc), whereas others are isolated ACL injuries and would yield a better prognosis.

“Similarly, various performance testing metrics during his rehabilitation can help give teams a sense as to how the knee is performing compared to the uninjured side.”
