(FOX40.COM) — A woman was arrested in Northern California on Tuesday after law enforcement said she lied about an abuse claim and the safety of an infant.

Around 7:40 a.m., the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6800 block of River Road in Oakdale when Cheyenne Spears, 33, reported to 911 that she had been struck with a baseball bat.
When the deputies arrived at the scene, the woman claimed that her 8-month-old’s father was the one who struck her. She also stated the infant was inside a home with the 37-year-old man, and he was making claims he may harm the baby.
SCSO said because of a plan to safely recover the child, deputies secured the area by closing River Road between Cleveland Avenue and Liberini Avenue. They also requested that a nearby school be placed on lockdown, out of an abundance of caution, and activated the Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT.
According to SCSO, about two-and-a-half hours after the initial call for service, the incident concluded with the child unharmed and the man detained. During further investigation, deputies determined that Spears made false statements about the circumstances to law enforcement.
Subsequently, the man was released, and Spears was booked at the Stanislaus County jail for making a false report and criminal threats.
“Making false reports is not only a crime but may divert important first responder resources from being available for actual emergencies,” SCSO said. “It could also impact the people accusations are made against or victims who need law enforcement, fire, or medical services.”
