The transition comes as existing magnetic stripe cards set to expire between now and October 25, 2025.
All cardholders in Sacramento County should have received their new EBT cards in the mail. The updated cards feature enhanced chip technology designed to better protect users’ benefits.

Magnetic stripe-only EBT cards can still be used until a chip-and-tap card is activated, or up to 180 days after the new card is issued, whichever comes first.
