Nearly $3K worth of musical instruments stolen from Dublin school: police

(KRON) — A music program at Dublin Elementary School is asking for the community’s help after dozens of instruments were stolen. According to the Dublin Police Department (DPD), the instruments were stolen from the school stage’s multi-purpose room.

The theft was discovered on Aug. 8 when a Dublin Elementary music education teacher conducted an inventory of the instruments, police said. Prior to that, the last inventory recorded was back in June.

The value of the stolen instruments totaled $2,750, according to the DPD. That included 25 Yamaha acoustic guitars valued at $100 each and five Makala ukuleles valued at $50 each.

A GoFundMe has been started to help raise money to recoup the stolen instruments. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $3,000 has been raised.

This is the first time anything has been stolen from Dublin Elementary, the GoFundMe states.

“This summer brought an unexpected and heartbreaking surprise to DES,” the GoFundMe reads. “To make matters worse, the thieves left behind quite the mess, sticky otter pops all over the MPR and the stage, showing complete disregard for the space and our school… it’s deeply upsetting. These guitars were vital for our beloved fifth grade guitar unit, which we hope to continue.”

As of now, police do not have information about any suspects in connection to the theft. DPD said it does not know when the theft happened, adding it was likely between the end of the school year in June and Aug. 8.

Police said “multiple people had access to the multi-purpose room throughout the summer.” There was no damage to the school or other classrooms.
