PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WGHP) — Crews Sunday night were continuing their search for a person who was reported missing on the Yadkin River on Sunday afternoon.

Surry County EMS said that they and the Yadkin Rescue Squad are searching for a missing person on the river and that they went missing sometime Sunday afternoon.

Just after 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office says that first responders came to the confluence of the Ararat River and the Yadkin River about a potential water rescue in the Siloam area.

Surry County deputies and the Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad received the call.

Deputies say that a 44-year-old man entered the water to help some family members who were struggling in the river. The man was able to assist his family members, however, he did not resurface.
