NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson to talk SNAP lawsuit, food assistance needs in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson will visit Friday the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC to address the reduction in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

It is something that’s taking a severe toll on families already grabbling with economic pressures and food banks stretched to meeting rising demands.

During his visit, Jackson will discuss his lawsuit against US Department of Agriculture (USDA) aimed at protecting SNAP food assistance benefits and encourage donations to food banks.

This comes after a federal judge criticized the Trump administration for not acting swiftly enough to secure funding for the program. In response, the USDA has been ordered to tap into a contingency fund to ensure full payments to states by the end of Friday.

In Orange County, emergency funds have already been used to support the community, as many residents faced uncertainty about their benefits at the end of October.
