Nassau Community College is opening its Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship this spring.
The center is designed to maximize contract opportunities for MWBEs and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses (SDVOBs). Here, MWBEs and SDVOBs can access certification programs so that they can bid on additional contracting opportunities and as a result grow revenue, increase jobs and spur economic development. The center will offer ongoing continuing education, mentoring, one-to-one instruction, training in business readiness and economic development and networking opportunities.
“Nassau Community College has a proven record of transforming lives through quality educational opportunities,” Maria Conzatti, chief administrative officer of Nassau Community College, which is part of the State University of New York, said in a written statement.
“The primary goal of the center is to help small businesses in our community become MWBE/SDVOB certified and to assist each business with navigating the procurement process,” Conzatti added.
Through on-campus and online instruction, the MWBE Center will provide business readiness workshops, financial assessment, one-to-one coaching sessions, and other services and educational programming. The center aims to assist individuals and small business owners with all levels of entrepreneurial experience.
The new venture is in collaboration with the college’s Office of Equity, Inclusion and Affirmative Action; Center for Workforce Development, and Office of Student Professional Development and Employer Services.
The center’s primary is to help small businesses become MWBE/SDVOB certified and to assist each business with growth and sustainability. MWBEs with all levels of entrepreneurial experience are welcome.
An in-person launch event for the new center, coinciding with Black History Month, will take place on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the first-floor lounge of the Cluster C Building. The public is invited to attend, and to register, click here.
