Motorcyclist dies on Highway 17 in San Jose Saturday

(BCN) — A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend after crashing on the Highway 17 connector to Interstate 280 in San Jose, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, a BMW motorcycle was traveling north on Highway 17 toward southbound I-280 when it veered to the left shoulder and struck a concrete bridge railing over the Moorpark Avenue undercrossing, the CHP said in a statement. The impact ejected the rider, who landed on a concrete embankment.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 a.m. The man was identified on Wednesday by officials as Sahil Bhuptani, 34, of Morgan Hill.

The transition road from northbound Highway 17 to southbound I-280 was closed for about an hour for the investigation.
