GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A man has died after a motorcycle collision with a moose on Route 7 in Great Barrington last Thursday night.
According to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, on October 2 at approximately 10:34 p.m., a detective with the Massachusetts State Police was called to the Route 7 southbound lane in Great Barrington regarding a deadly motorcycle collision. The crash had reportedly taken place between the Great Barrington Recycling Center and the Monument Mountain Trustees Reservation parking lot.
When law enforcement arrived, they found a motorcyclist and a moose lying on the pavement in the southbound lane. Initial investigation revealed that the moose had stepped into the southbound lane, where it was struck by the motorcyclist.
Both the motorcyclist and the moose reportedly died on impact. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Wyeth Curtis.
The Berkshire County DA’s Office said that based on evidence, the motorcycle had then continued to travel southbound without the driver, eventually stopping in the northbound lane. Two vehicles driving northbound also experienced a collision that was reportedly related to the motorcycle lying in the lane.
The Great Barrington Police Department, Southern Berkshire EMS, Massachusetts State Police, and Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire DA’s Office provided assistance and emergency response during this incident.
