The feud between Mötley Crüe and guitarist Mick Mars appears to have carried over into the studio. According to a photo posted by Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, the band is in the studio writing new material with live guitarist John 5 and drummer Tommy Lee.

Notably absent is Mick Mars, who is currently suing the band over everything from allegedly getting screwed over financially to possibly lip-synched performances throughout certain tours. Upon his departure, a representative for Mars said “Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigors of the road.” So who knows if that’s changed in the wake of the lawsuit, but Sixx certainly does seem to be making a point with his photo.

“We are writing,” said Sixx. “The creative process of songwriting has always been the heartbeat of our band. We’re gonna go in the big studio next week and record a few off the floor and see where it goes. We don’t have a definitive plan at this point. Just letting the songs guide us.”

If Mars is truly not involved, the new material will be Mötley Crüe‘s first-ever music without Mars‘ contributions (if you’re going by writing credits). Mötley Crüe‘s latest material was four new songs on The Dirt Soundtrack, which were written in collaboration with John 5, Machine Gun Kelly (seriously), and Daniel “Sahaj” Ticotin.
