The Money Heist spin-off, Berlin, has continuously held its position in Netflix’s elite series category, and for good reason. The series features the adored Berlin (Pedro Alonso) along with his “veteran” and exhilarating crew, which includes the code virtuoso Keila (Michelle Jenner), the engineering and physics academic Damián (Tristan Ulloa), locksmith Roi (Julio Peña Fernández), gadget and weapon expert Bruce (Joel Sánchez), and the enigma Cameron (Begoña Vargas).

Although taking place years before the audacious heist at The Royal Mint of Spain, Berlin orchestrates a captivating reunion for fans by reintroducing iconic characters from the original series, such as Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituńo) and Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

Showrunners Álex Pina and Esther Martinez introduce a novel perspective on this prequel, highlighting that while Berlin takes a “lighter” approach compared to the beloved series, its distinctive quality lies in its emphasis on “love,” setting it apart from the original material. They express, “We always seek elements that deeply resonate with the viewer, and love is one of them. The story unfolds various facets of love, showcasing various types as characters strive to depict different moments and situations.”

In alignment with the sentiments expressed by the showrunners, Pedro Alonso, the actor portraying the titular character in Berlin, shares insights about the project and his character in this prequel. He states, “I’ve often heard that Berlin is a cynic. Not at all. He’s sarcastic, has a diabolically dark humor, and can be fascinating—a real prick, if you will, but not a cynic. He’s committed to rediscovering a fulfilling life, daring to fall in love against the backdrop of common sense and logic. A man inherently designed for love, despite all odds.”

Alongside its compelling narrative, Berlin enthralls audiences with its stunning landscapes, as the series was filmed in 146 locations across various provinces of Spain, including Madrid, Almeria, and León, as well as the romantic city of Paris. The show showcases mesmerizing scenes against iconic Parisian landmarks like the Church of Saint Julien Le Pauvre, Château d’ Ormesson-sur-Marne, Sacré Coeur, and the charming streets of Montmartre.

Beyond these picturesque locations, the show enchants viewers with its carefully curated music selection, featuring tracks specifically recorded for the series. Among them are the captivating opening theme “Bullets and Flowers” by Francis White and Nikki García, along with “No me mires” by POL 3,14 and “Tout Ou Rien” by Pipo Romero.
