Modesto police release video of officer-involved shooting, identifying the officer and suspect involved.
MODESTO, Calif. — The Modesto Police Department has released new details and video from an officer-involved shooting that took place in early August, identifying both the officer and the suspect involved.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on August 8, in the 1200 block of Boulder Avenue, after officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area.
Police said Officer Jesus Padilla, a four-year veteran of the department, contacted 19-year-old Jadon Sieng after spotting a vehicle linked to the report.
According to investigators, Sieng’s car struck Padilla, injuring the officer’s leg. Padilla then fired his weapon, hitting Sieng in the arm. Sieng attempted to leave the scene but crashed near the Highway 99 on-ramp at Hatch Road.
Authorities said he tried to run before being taken into custody by a Stanislaus County sheriff’s sergeant. Officers reported finding a loaded handgun inside his vehicle.
Padilla was treated for a lower leg injury and released from the hospital. Sieng also received medical care before being booked into jail.
He faces a lengthy list of charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, felony domestic violence, multiple counts of attempted homicide, shooting at an occupied dwelling, criminal threats, and several weapons violations.
Police released a Critical Incident Briefing video this week that includes body-worn camera footage from the encounter.
Officials said the release is part of their ongoing commitment to transparency. Viewer discretion is advised due to the graphic nature of the footage.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
