MLB pitcher Mike Clevinger won’t be punished after domestic violence investigation

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Clevinger will not face discipline following a domestic violence investigation by MLB.

Olivia Finestead, who shares a child with Clevinger, said the MLB veteran physically and emotionally abused her throughout their relationship. MLB began investigating Clevinger during the summer of 2022.

On Sunday, the league office closed the investigation and said “barring the receipt of any new information or evidence” Clevinger would not face any punishment under the league’s domestic violence policy.

Clevinger, 32, has been in spring training with the White Sox but has yet to appear in a preseason game.

Though Finestead reached out to MLB investigators in the middle of last year, she didn’t speak publicly about the alleged abuse until January.

“He’s committed SEVERAL acts of domestic violence and child abuse,” she wrote then in an Instagram post. “Finally left when he strangled me.”

Finestead also shared four photos of bruises and said one came from when Clevinger threw an iPad at her while she was pregnant.

Clevinger denied the allegations and released a statement Sunday after the league office cleared him.

“I had nothing to hide and cooperated fully with MLB,” he said. “I appreciate everyone who had faith in me, including the White Sox organization and my teammates.”
