Mega Millions climbs closer to $1 billion: Are you a millionaire after Tuesday’s drawing?

It’s the third time the jackpot has reached this level since the game’s largest prize ever of $1.602 billion was won in August of 2023.

WASHINGTON — Will the Mega Millions jackpot reach $1 billion this year? It’s inching closer to the billion-dollar mark with a massive jackpot of $965 million after Tuesday’s drawing continued the winless streak. 

But despite nobody walking home nearly a billion dollars richer, there are two new millionaires after Tuesday’s drawing. three tockets, sold in Iowa, New York and Arizona, all matched the five white balls for Tuesday’s drawing. 

To win the jackpot, they had to hit the bonus gold ball. But even without that, the tickets in Iowa and New York are worth $3 million, and the one in Arizona is worth $5 million. 

It’s the third time the jackpot has reached this level since the game’s largest prize ever of $1.602 billion was won in August of 2023, and the eighth largest jackpot since the lottery game began in 2002.

The jackpot has been growing since it was last won in Virginia on June 27.

Tuesday’s winning numbers are 10-13-40-42-46, Mega Ball 1. 

The jackpot winner has the option to take the cash lump sum of $415.3 million or annuity, which is paid out in one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments increasing by 5% every year.

Mega Millions drawings take place Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
