A persevering trailblazer of electronic music production, Mat Zo has returned with a typiclally boundary-pushing track, “Subsurface.” Out now on Anjunabeats, it’s a stellar showcase of his innovative sound wrapped into a thoughtfully-written arrangement.

The track masterfully fuses a punchy bassline with a range of melodic moments, staying catchy and burrowing deep into the mind from the first kick. From the first driving drop to the grittiness of its coda, “Subsurface” puts Zo’s brilliance on full display.

He’s been on a roll this year, releasing “Closure” in May before joining forces with Spencer Brown for “Spun Day.” Last month, Zo celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his Grammy-nominated debut album, Damage Control, by releasing a deluxe edition featuring a new song, “LAXodus.”
