Maryland prosecutors investigating after unmarked car police chase ends in deadly crash

Maryland prosecutors are probing a fatal crash following a police pursuit of a speeding teen.

BALTIMORE — Maryland state prosecutors are investigating after a police pursuit of a speeding teen ended in a deadly, fiery crash.

According  to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, a Howard County police officer in an unmarked cruiser saw Honda speeding on Columbia Pike near Johns Hopkins Road.

The officer reportedly followed the car, catching up to it as the driver exited onto Pautuxent Freeway.

When the officer – who has not been identified – activated his emergency equipment and tried to stop the Honda, the driver refused and tried to take an exit ramp, according to the prosecutors’ report.

They say that when the driver exited onto Broken Land Parkway, he crashed into a wooded area and his car caught fire.

The teen behind the wheel of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating the crash. They say the identities of the teen who was killed and the pursuing officer will be released within two days.
