In the early 1970s, Marc Harrison, an industrial designer and professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, and his students designed and built a prototype for prefabricated housing made from zinc panels. It was also a showcase for what is now known as universal design — a place where people of all ages and abilities could be comfortable.
