Man charged with attempted murder in Saturday morning shooting, Rocky Mount police say

A man is in the hospital, and another is in jail Saturday after a shooting in Rocky Mount.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, police officers were investigating a shots-fired call around 2:09 a.m. on Clyde Street. Police learned that when they arrived, the victim had left the scene and was found on Peter Street.

Police said the man was taken to the hospital. Police said the victim is “stable” at the hospital, but the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Police arrested 24-year-old Elijah Emmanuel Joyner during their investigation into the shooting and charged him with the following:

  • Four counts of attempted murder
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Discharging a firearm from an enclosed home

Joyner is currently in jail under no bond, and police said their investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Police asked anyone with information to contact them at 252-972-1411 or leave an anonymous tip at Tip 411 by texting “RMPD” followed by your message to 847411.
