According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit began with the California Highway Patrol at 11 p.m. on Sept. 2 in Fair Oaks but officers lost sight of the vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office North Patrol Deputies later located the vehicle speeding near Sunset Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard after the CHP ended its pursuit.
The sheriff’s office said attempts were made to stop the car, but the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Connor Slape, refused. He drove through multiple stop lights, signs, struck at least one other vehicle, drove on the wrong side of the road and reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, the Sacramento County Sheriff said.
The pursuit ended near a boat ramp at Sailor Bar in Fair Oaks. According to the sheriff’s office, Slape abandoned the vehicle and likely hid it in the water before attempting to escape on foot. Sheriff’s K9 Dave apprehended Slape.
Slape was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges related to the pursuit. He was released from jail later that same day on his own recognizance.
