Man arrested after crash injures 4 people at Truckee Safeway

A Coalinga man was arrested after intentionally striking four pedestrians, including children, outside a Safeway in Truckee, police say.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A man was arrested after a driver intentionally struck four people outside a Safeway store Saturday, according to the Truckee Police Department.

Officers responded around 2:45 p.m. to reports of a vehicle hitting pedestrians near the store’s front entrance, police said.

Investigators determined the driver intentionally ran over the victims, police said.

The driver was identified as Jonathan Maurer, 49, of Coalinga. He was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City.

The four victims — including adults and children — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Maurer faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, felony vandalism and violation of post-release community supervision terms.

The incident remains under investigation.
