Man accused of four Manteca shootings fires at officers during chase, police say

Police arrest an Antioch man linked to four shootings after a vehicle chase in Manteca.

MANTECA, Calif. — A 26-year-old Antioch man who is connected to four shootings in two days is in custody after police say he fired at officers during a chase before crashing his vehicle.

According to the Manteca Police Department, the shootings were reported on Monday and Tuesday at the same residence. The shootings caused property damage but no injuries, police said.

Around 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, officers spotted the suspect in a vehicle linked to the shootings in a Jack in the Box parking lot at Main Street and Louis Avenue, police said.

Officers attempted a traffic stop and gave orders to the driver, but he backed toward one of the patrol cars. Another officer attempted to block the car to prevent it from leaving, but he was able to flee, prompting a chase.

As officers pursued the vehicle northbound on Union Road between Lovelace Road and French Camp Road, the man allegedly fired several shots at patrol cars, according to police.

The chase continued west on French Camp Road until the man collided with another vehicle near Dudley Road, veered into a field and rolled several times.

Police said officers ordered the man to exit the car, but after 20 minutes of negotiations, he exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital with complaints of pain.

He will be booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for charges related to the initial shootings as well as the pursuit and firing at officers.

Police said a firearm was found inside the car.

The man’s identity and car description are being withheld pending photo line-ups and further witness interviews, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Manteca Police Department at 209-456-8101.
