Madonna feels ‘how lucky I am to be alive’ one month after health scare landed her in ICU

The Queen of Pop feels lucky to be alive and is getting the best medicine during her recuperation: “love from family and friends.”

Madonna opened up about her recent health scare in an Instagram post on Sunday as she posted photos of herself with David Banda, 17, and Lourdes Leon, 26, two of her six children.

“One month out of the hospital and I can reflect,” she wrote in the caption. “As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving……….. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.”

Madonna also posted a snapshot of herself with a gift from longtime manager Guy Oseary: A framed Polaroid photo, taken by Andy Warhol, of Keith Haring wearing a Michael Jackson jacket. “A perfect triangle of Brilliance,” she said of the Polaroid.

“I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realized how lucky I am to be alive,” the 64-year-old added. “And how fortunate I am to have known these people and so many others who are also gone. Thank you @guyoseary for this gift! And Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me Stay to finish doing my work!”

The pop star ended up in the ICU for several days with a severe bacterial infection in June, forcing her to postpone her Celebration Tour. Sources told TMZ that she endured a month-long fever as she rehearsed for that tour but was hospitalized after collapsing.

On July 10, Madonna made her first public statement since the hospital stay, telling fans she was “on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.”
