A pair of casino cheats have been arrested by the Judiciary Police in Macau, with the scheme allegedly inflicting damages of up to $76,000 and more on a local casino. The arrest and investigative action were announced on Friday, with the suspects detailed by the police.
A croupier by the surname of Ho, 33, and a 32-year-old by the surname of Zhou conducted the scheme together, using Ho’s position at the venue. The pair are related by marriage, with Zhou being the husband of Ho’s younger sister. Zhou would end up receiving chips of higher denomination against the one he traded from Ho while playing.
Zhou would come to the property and ask to have his HKD 10,000 exchanged for smaller denominations, with Zhou handing him over six chips, each worth HKD 5,000 for a total of HKD 30,000. The scheme is known as 10,000 for 30,000, as explained by the police.
The scheme unfolded quickly, with investigators establishing that the pair began their scheme around the 25th of last month and continued conducting it over the following five days, resulting in the theft of HKD 600,000 or the above-cited $76,000 figure.
The pair funded the scheme with their money and split any profit generated this way evenly. Each participant is now facing a charge of fraud and they remain in police custody.
